\nThe lower mirror pane is in good condition, with slight oxidation, and is likely a later replacement.
\nThe upper mirror pane is original, featuring a Neoclassical painted decoration that depicts an allegorical scene characteristic of the period, drawing inspiration from antiquity. <\/p>\n
This Neoclassical scene features a centrally positioned ‘fountain of wisdom,’ depicted as a classical bowl (tazza) with two birds perched on its rim\u2014a motif inspired by ‘Pliny\u2019s Doves,’ symbolizing peace and the soul’s pursuit of knowledge. Seated on either side in a symmetrical, defensive posture are two allegorical female figures (likely representing Minerva or Dea Roma). <\/p>\n
In the Empire style, Minerva was among the most frequently depicted figures, as she symbolized not only military strength (represented by the spear) but, above all, wisdom, craftsmanship, and the triumph of reason.
