Kosmos Project for Square Drop
The ODDITY furniture collection is the result of cooperation between the Square Drop and the Kosmos Project. It is an example of combining the multi-generational craftsmanship of an antique furniture studio with the designers' distinctive style.
The collection includes a cabinet, a gondola, an etagere, a desk, a column and a cabinet. The typology refers to historical furniture, emphasizing the roots of the Square Drop.
The construction of the furniture and the way it is finished expose the sculptural character of the frurnitures. The collection was created thanks to the cooperation with local craftsmen, using only Polish materials. The furniture is made of solid ash wood, upholstered with wool manufactured in Tomaszów, the stone comes from the Świętokrzyskie Mountains, and the elements of cast iron and brass fittings are made by local locksmiths.
The furniture is available in two different colors: dark and bright. The black version is raw, with traces of tools left. In addition, its character is emphasized by fittings made of raw cast iron and steel. Bright furniture is sanded to obtain a velvety smooth surface. The fronts are decorated with elegant grooves, and cast iron and steel have been replaced by warm brass. Natural materials and a variety of textures make the furniture very sensual, and the light refracts on its surface, changing the perception depending on the lighting. All materials gain over time, making the furniture age beautifully and gain nobility. Each copy is signed.
The collection breaks the division between office and home design. It meets to the needs of the new reality. The non-obvious character and intriguing forms make the furniture a great accent in a modern office interior. A desk with a decorative turned quartzite leg can be used as a workspace or a wall-mounted console. The tables serve as portable shelves - helpers. The collection fits well with both modern design and classic shapes of historical furniture.
