Haptic Plinth
The Haptic Plinth is a unique piece of furniture that combines the functionality of an exhibitor (display stand) with the haptic experience of interacting with natural solid wood.
It is a free-standing, polygonal column, made of solid iroko wood. The top is made of unprotected brass, which will develop a noble, natural patina over time.
The key element of the design is the varied texture of the wood surface. This treatment is intended to show the difference in the wood’s appearance depending on the level of its processing, to draw the viewer’s attention to the beauty of the material, its hapticity, and its interaction with light depending on the texture. Such a finish is only possible with manual, artisanal processing, where the artist decides on the final look of the furniture piece as they work. The columns are finished with natural beeswax, which further enhances their sensory aspect.
These plinths can function independently, introducing vertical accents into the interior, and they are also ideal as display stands (exhibitors) for art objects or decorations. They look particularly impressive in sets of columns of varying heights.
The Haptic Plinth is made to order, which allows for modifications to its diameter and height.
The prototypes of the furniture piece were presented during the Nów w Pełni 2025 exhibition of the NÓW Nowe Rzemiosło Association at the Industrial Design Institute in Warsaw.
