Kalina Bańka-Kulka

She creates objects and images from glass which she usually presents in the form of site-specific installations. In her creative activities, she currently realizes personal and sentimental projects related to family relationships in the generational chain of women. She refers to motherhood and childhood, telling a story of how the past shapes our present.

Born in 1989 in Dąbrowa Górnicza, she lives and works in Wrocław. A graduate of the Faculty of Ceramics and Glass of the Wrocław Academy of Fine Arts where, since 2013, she has co-created a diploma-granting studio in the Glass Department. In 2020, she obtained a doctoral degree in art. A member of the NÓW New Craft association. She has realized thirteen individual exhibitions and took part in over 100 exhibitions at home and abroad (including: USA, Italy, Denmark, Germany, Bulgaria, Estonia, Netherlands, Lithuania, Czech Republic). She is a laureate of over a dozen national and international competitions in the field of glass and design. In 2016, a glass object of her authorship was qualified for the review NEW GLASS REVIEW 38 – 100 selected glass works of 2016 by the Corning Museum of Glass in New York. In recent years, she has conducted original classes in the field of glass at prestigious centers such as: Urban Glass in New York, Pilchuck Glass School in Stanwood in the USA, or BildWerk Frauenau in Germany. She has four times received the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the Young Poland scholarship, and the Scholarship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for outstanding young scientists.

Her works are located in the collections of:

  • the Karkonosze Museum in Jelenia Góra,
  • the National Museum in Krakow,
  • the Glass Museum Alter Hof Herding in Germany,
  • and several private collections abroad.
