Classicist oil lamp, signed W&W KOSMOS

An antique, table-top oil lamp in the Classicist style. The object is complete, very well preserved, and suitable for both outdoor and indoor use with the appropriate choice of oil. To avoid smoking, the use of paraffin oil is recommended.

Products from the Berlin-based company Wild & Wessel (W&W) stood out for their exceptionally elegant lamp designs, which combined functionality with the fashionable aesthetics of the time (ranging from Classicism to Art Nouveau). The company was renowned for its highest-quality “Kosmos” type burners.

The glass body features hand-painted, subtle decoration in the form of garlands, as well as an ornament in Wedgwood-style colors; the spherical shade features matte floral ornaments.

The lamp dates back to the years 1860–1890. Glass lamps are usually earlier than models made from metal castings.
